Il Fiore dai petali d'acciaio (The Flower with Petals of Steel)

It took me quite some time to track down an english subbed copy of Gianfranco Piccoli's 1973 thriller Il Fiore dai petali d'acciaio. I'm generally quite fond of Carroll Baker's work, so I was hoping this might be a forgotten classic. It wasn't. It was rather dull and uninspired entry in the genre. One for the giallo completist only. The poster by Ezio Tarantelli looks pretty good though.

La Tarantola dal ventre nero (Black Belly of the Tarantula)

Another beautiful poster by Averardo Cirello. This one from Paolo Cavara's 1971 giallo classic La Tarantola dal ventre nero

L'Uccello dalle piume di cristallo (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage)

It's never going to be a proper giallo blog without some Argento posters. I'll start off by posting the locandina from his 1970 debut L'Uccello dalle piume di cristallo. A very striking and brutal image by P. Franco and one of my personal favorites.

Giornata nera per l'ariete (The Fifth Cord)

I find Luigi Bazzoni's The Fifth Cord from 1971 one of the most beautiful films of the genre. Shot by Vittorio Storaro (who also shot The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and 'Tis Pity She's a Whore the same year), almost every frame of the film look good enough to be hung in an art gallery. Franco Nero is great as the alcoholic protagonist and the film features a wonderfully creepy soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Poster design by Piero Ermanno Iaia

La Corta notte delle bambole di vetro (Short Night of the Glass Dolls)

Another one that has just been framed and is waiting to go up on the wall. The beautiful artwork for this 1971 giallo directed by Aldo Lado features Jean Sorel in a maelstrom of beautiful women, paranoia, sex and murder. Poster design by Renato Casaro. Great film and great poster in any case.

L'Uomo Senza Memoria (Puzzle)

Let's start off with one that I've just had framed.
L'Uomo senza memoria from 1974 is one of the few thrillers by great director Duccio Tessari that has received a dvd release with any kind of English option. The beautiful poster is designed by Averardo Cirello.

Welcome to the Giallo Locandine blog!

I was recently searching the net hoping to come across a site devoted to giallo locandine art. I didn't manage to find one, so I decided to start this blog and and post pictures from my personal giallo locandine collection instead. I'll be focusing mainly on 1970's gialli, but the occasional later date entry might pop up as well.
Every now and then, I'll try to post some thoughts about the design of the poster, the film or the soundtrack, but it's mainly about the great art work. I hope you'll find it enjoyable!
